TPO-01 - Integrated Writing Task In the United States, employees typically work five days a week for eight hours each day. However, many employees want to work a four-day week and are willing to accept less pay inorder to do so. A mandatory policy requiri

The reading and the lecture are both discussing about whether an individual should be offered to work four days and accept salary of 80 percent of previous salary or not. They are both supporting its perspective by reasons.

First of all, the author points out that offering this option is beneficial because it will be profitable for the company. The reason why it will be profitable is that the rested employees will make less mistakes than before and company can employ more employees to check mistakes. However, the lecturer cast doubt on it by saying that it will have bad impacts on company because employing new individuals will require more money from the company. For example, new employees will need office space and computers. Moreover, they will need health insurance.

Secondly, In the reading, it states that unemployment rate will decrease. The reason is that when four-work day employers rest, the left work will be shifted to new workers. On the other hand, the lecturer contrast it by saying that four-day worker will start working for over time because the owner will start expecting them to do the job of 5 days in 4 days. Hence, there will be no decrease in unemployment rate and the jobs will be even unpleasant.

Lastly, the author says that working for less days will be beneficial for employers. Due to less work hour, the worker will have time to spent it for his or her family and spent it for his or her own interest. In contrast, the lecturer refutes it because she thinks that working for less hour is risky. Resting a lot might affect employees ability to work hard. Moreover, that worker, perhaps, won’t be promoted in any situations and might even lose his job because the employer would want someone who works permanently and a lot.
