The reading and the lecture are both about dinosaurs. The author of the reading gives three reasons to support his idea that dinosaurs were endothermic. The lecture casts doubt on the claims made in the article that it is a controversial idea and his idea is in oppose idea to the reading.
First of all, the author of the reading points out that people have found the fossils of dinosaurs in polar region, which is a place that only animals are able to maintain temperature could live. This point is challenged by the lecture. He says that the weather has changed a lot that before it was much warmer than today. Moreover, during cold months dinosaurs as other animals migrated to warmer weather to live.
Secondly, the author of the reading contends that legs of dinosaurs were located beneath their bodies. They helped dinosaurs to run quickly and this point also provides an evident that dinosaurs were endothermic because only animals that have legs below their bodies can run fast and they are mostly endothermic. The lecture rebuts this argument that the legs of dinosaurs were beneath their bodies in order to sustain their weight. That is why their sizes were very large.
Finally, the author of the reading states that bone structure of dinosaurs contained Haversian canals. This feature allows animal to grow quickly and it is character of endotherm. The lecture on the other hand, opposes this idea that it is true that bone of dinosaurs has Haversian canals, but dinosaurs also had growth rings, and in cold months those growth rings stopped growing. Meanwhile for endotherm animals, they could grow rapidly in cool weather.
