The reading and the lecture are both about the memoir of Chevalier which contains information about his life and adventure. The author of the reading believes that Chevalier has invented many events in order to make his life seems glamorous and more exciting. The lecturer casts doubt on the claim made in the article. She thinks that the memoir was a pretty accurate novel.
First of all, the author points out that Chevalier living in Switzerland was very wealthy, however the known about him is that he has spent a plenty amount of money there on parties and gambling, the proofs on that was the amount of money he borrowed from the Swiss merchant as a loan in order to pay for the gambling and the parties.
Furthermore, the author has mentioned that the conversation between the famous writer Voltaire and Chevalier has been written after the conversation with a long time. The lecturer has defeated this point by saying that Chevalier has written every thing that he could remember after every night he met Voltaire.
Finally, the author has mentioned that the escaping of Chevalier from the notorious prison in Venice, Italy was full of a plenty number of story's. One of the story's was that he has created a hole in the ceiling of the prison using a piece of metal then climbing the roof. This previous story, has been criticized that the jailers were bribed to free him plus he got a pretty number of a politically well-connected friends in Venice who could offer a bribe. The lecture has defeated that point completely since this Jails are powerfully secured so no one could escape from it whatever, how much power he has.
In addition to, the old vanishing government has said that the ceiling would required a repairing if he had escaped from it.
