The reading passage is discussing an interesting topic about the beneficial use of hydrogen-based fuel-cell engine to create electric cars replacing internal-combustion. The reading provides extensive information to support this position. The lecture, on the other hand, casts doubts about the real benefit of the hydrogen resources and argues each of the reasons of the reading passage.
First of all, the reading passage explains very clear that internal-combustion engine that relies on petroleum is a finite resource. Although, the lecturer agrees with this claim, she also remarks that the hydrogen is not easy to get as the reading passage states. Moreover, according to the lecture, water is not a good resource of hydrogen, as the reading passage claims, but liquid hydrogen in its pure state. In consequence, the process involved to get it is very difficult and none practical at all. Thus, the reading passage first point is invalid.
Secondly, the reading passage argues that the internal-combustion engines produces a great amount of pollution in contrast of the hydrogen-based fuel cells. In opposition of this idea, the lecture disagrees explaining that the process to obtain hydrogen is a very polluted one. Consequently, the second reading passage's point of argument is refuted.
Finally, the reading passage reinforces the advantage of the use of fuel-cell engines because of its lower cost. On the contrary, the lecturer, with all the above descriptions, refutes the facts of a lower cost process. According to the lecture, the process to get hydrogen in pure state is very expensive and difficult to apply. As a result, with such reasoning the reading passage's final idea is contradicted.
