TPO 1
The passage discusses several benefits of the 4-days working of employees rather than 5-days. The professor, on the other hand, casts doubts on those benefits suggested, and provides his thoughts.
Firstly, the author describes that companies which provide the option to their employees would gain an overall profit by decreasing 20 percent of the payment of 4-days employees. The professor contradicts for overall profit and suggests that companies spend more money on training and medical insurance of their workers, as they need more employees for doing the same amount of work. Moreover, he states that increased employment would require more offices and computers, thus, the total cost increase dramatically.
Secondly, the passage suggests that the overall unemployment rate would decrease, since offering the 4-days option would decrease overworking hours. However, the professor indicates that the companies might expect their workers to do the same amount of work in fewer days, in the fact that employees would find their current job unpleasant.
Thirdly, the passage expresses that fewer hours gives employees the chance to improve themselves and spend more time with their families. The professor disagrees with the improvement of the quality of their lives. Additionally, he states that as most of the companies offers management positions to their 5-days workers, they would not be able to be promoted from their current position.
