TPO-17 - Integrated Writing Task In the past century, the steady growth of the human population and the corresponding increase in agriculture and pesticide use have caused much harm to wildlife in the United States, birds in particular. Unfortunately for b

The reading and the lecturer are both about the birds in the USA. The author of the reading states that birds in the United States are decreasing and provides three reasons for support. However, the lecturer explains that the decrease in several birds is not convincing and refutes each of the author's points.

First, the reading conveys that because of the increase in human population the bird habitat may be lost. On the other hand, the lecturer refutes this point by saying that urban growth provides larger and better increase in the bird population. Moreover, he also says that the birds like pageants and seagulls are more in urban areas. He mentions that some birds may be declined by human activities but not all the birds.

Second, the text explains that the growth of agriculture will also cause damage to birds. Nevertheless, the professor opposes this point by saying that in the United States the land used for agriculture is very less.

Third, the article posits that as the agriculture increases the use of pesticides will also be increased, which will affect the growth of birds population. However, the professor says that there are two changes made for the pesticides first, new and less toxic pesticides are used, second, unattractive to birds and they do not harm the birds at all.
