Both the author and the lecturer discuss "let it burn" policy, which says the forest will be burn quickly and there is no need to interfere with this natural phenomenon. Whereas the author posits that this policy had very harmful consequences, the lecturer refutes this claim, casting doubt on every single point made by the author.
Although "let it burn" policy critics claim that the Yellowstone national park is almost a desolated land, the lecturer counters that argument by asserting that not only the fire did not vanish the plants, but also it led to an increase in the variety of the plants in the national park and there was a new chance for new various plants to flourish in a new environment.
Furthermore, critics hold the view that the vast fire in that park caused that the survival of many animals is not possible anymore and they have many issues to deal with in their lives. On the contrary, the lecturer underlines the fact that it made many new opportunities for the park wildlife. He mentions that growing new plants helped some small animals to be able to live and feed on these new plants. Therefore, the predators of these small animals were able to hunt more than before and increase their population.
Finally, the reading states that this forest fires had a noticeable and irrecoverable impact on the tourism of that area, so it was harmful to the economy of the Yellowstone. In contrast, the speaker dismisses this issue due to the fact that there must be a consistent phenomenon to be able to influence the economy, however, it was unusual and it happened only one year and the tourists came back to the park the year after that.
