The reading discusses that cultivating genetically modified trees provide some benefits. The author listed three reasons to support this idea. However, the lecture finds all the reasons dubious and states they have serious problems hence, she presents some evidence to refute all reasons.
First, the author points out that these modified trees are harder compared with natural trees, so they live longer. In contrast, the speaker casts doubt on this issue by standing that resistance to the particular condition does not make sure survival. Indeed, when the climate would change the least resistant trees will die. Genetically modified trees are uniform to environmental challenging so all will die. Though, some wild natural trees can survive.
Furthermore, the reading passage indicates that genetically modified trees have some economic benefits, as they grew faster, they produce more products and also need fewer pesticides. On the other hand, the speaker declares that they want more charges, inasmuch as the farmer can collect the seeds of wild trees but every time they want to plant genetically modified trees they have to buy seeds. Thus, this idea is rejected.
Last but not least, the author illustrates that they restrict from overexploitation of wild true and satisfy the demands for wood. On the contrary, the speaker dismisses this idea and depicts that genetically modified trees grow more aggressively and compete for the soil nutrient, sunlight and other resources with the wild trees. Therefore, all these reasons are rebutted by the lecturer.
