The reading passage and the lecture are both about different cons and pros of genetically modified trees. The author of the snippet believes that there are a lot of benefits from the genetic modification. However, the lecturer considers that the statements made in the reading fragment are wrong, and she reinforces her opinion by providing three contrary examples.
First of all, there is indicated in the reading fragment that genetically modified trees tend to survive in the severe conditions in contrary to the usual trees. However, the speaker asserts that modified trees are usually resistent to the one type of conditions, when wild trees are more adaptive. Consequently, in the case of climate changes all genetically modified trees will possibly die because of the changing conditions.
The subsequent lecturer argument is related to the statement made in the excerpt that increasing velocity of modified tree growth and greater yields of food are the benefits for the farmers. The lecturer disputes this statement by claiming that usage of the midified crops has hidden costs. In other words, farmers aren’t able to plant the seeds of the modified trees and, more importantly, they ought ot make payment to the companies, which invented this type of the genetically modified plants.
Finally, there is denoted in the reading passage that genetically modified trees prevent the overuse of wild trees. The lecturer states that all genetically made plants are able to damage the wild plants which grow nearby. Moreover, this modified plants grow really agressively and demand a lot of space to grow.
