TPO-24 - Integrated Writing Task Animal fossils usually provide very little opportunity to study the actual animal tissues, because in fossils the animals' living tissues have been largely replaced by minerals. Thus, scientists were very excited recently
Both the article and lecture discuss remains of the T.rex dinosaur, which contain actual tissues of animals. The author of passage believes that material inside bone seem to be relics real tissues such as blood vessel, red blood cell as well as collagen matrix, however, the lecturer casts doubt on the point describe in the reading passage.
Firstly, the lecturer rejects the point regarding the blood vessels. It is mentioned in the lecture that soft, organic substances are not blood vessels. He continues by adding that bacteria colonize in hole and channels and then they leave soft organic material. Therefore, it is likely that soft and organic substances were left by bacteria. Consequently, it is not true to say that flexible and soft materials are blood vessel of the T.rex dinosaur. By contrast, the writer is of an opinion that substances in the inside of the channels indicates that the channels are blood vessels.
Secondly, the professor refutes the point made in the text. He argues that red color cells are seen in fossils of other animals in nearby places. Some of animals were primitive, which did not have red blood cells. The speaker believes that the red color substance may be a different material for example reddish material. Hence, the idea of red blood cell is not convincing. On the contrary, the author of passage claims that red blood cell found in the parts of the inner bone contains iron, which is exist in red blood cells.
Finally, although the writer points out that scientists observed collagen in dinosaurs’ leg bone, which is component of living tissue, the speaker challenges this claim. He brings up a point that collagen could not last more, while fossils are 70 million year's old. It is argued that collagen may came from the recent source, for instance from human skins when they were handing bones, since human skins have collagen. As a result of this, presence of collagen in the bone tissue do not demonstrate the living bone tissue.
