While that piece of text provides some reasons that the founded clay jars weren't some kind of ancient batteries, it seems they are not well proven enough to have such arguments about this theory.
If we talk about absence of some cort of conductors like wires, we have to notice that these vessels were find by ordinary people who not trained to search for ancient parts and not like archaeologists, they might not aware of importance of such things like metal wires.
Beside that, when the similarity of the jars with cylinders comes up, we have to know that it isn't convincing enough for not using the cylinders as a battery. it could be first used as anything else and after years, some others use it as a battery.
At last, it's obvious that there weren't any electrical devices to use battery, but ancient people could use these ancient batteries as a way to show the power and magic to others! because electricity in invisible and it's a great way to have others attention with tricks. moreover, now we use electricity for mild shocking in medicine, it has a great probably that ancient doctors used that batteries for these purposes.
