Knowing the usage of structures like "great houses" in Chaco Canyon in New Mexico with hundreds of rooms is one of the biggest questions that archaeologists have.
As we have three theories about this usage, it seems none of these theories are convincing enough to get them as the main reason for constructing such settlements.
The first idea which is came with the idea of residential application of great houses, is not quite right. Because if this place was something like nowadays apartments, there should be fire places all over the building. But archaeologists could only find a few of them.
In the second Theory, some of archaeologists think that this maze had an application for storing foods and products. Even this theory is good in some aspects, but if there were maze containers in that settlements, we can’t observe any of them on the floors.
And the third idea describes the application of that constructions in order to have celebrations. Because of having signs of trashes in the building, this theory can be one of the most possible ideas. But as it could be seen many trash pots in there, having these trashes can also a result of constructions in that parts.
