TPO 27 Integrated Writing Task

The reading passage explores the origin of the Little Ice Age, and several reasons are given in support of this argument. Although the points mentioned in the passage seem reasonable, the lecturer casts doubt on them for the following reasons.
To begin with, even though the reading passage suggests that the Gulf stream can disrupt the temperature, leading to the cooling in the surrounding areas. The lecturer argues that it is a misconception. This is because the Gulf stream can only be influential in North America and Europe, which means that the Gulf stream probably has nothing to do with this freezing period, which occurs around the world.
Second, the lecturer concurs that the dust of volcanic eruptions might cover the atmosphere and lower the temperature, as suggested in the article. Nevertheless, he believes that dust is not strong enough to promote this cooling climate. Furthermore, with the aim of establishing a solid and concrete explanation, he points out that there are no reports regarding the invisibility of local scenarios, caused by volcanic dust.
Last but not least, the lecturer acutely identifies the weakness in the reading passage that the drastic decrease in human population results in less deforestation and fewer greenhouse gases effect. The lecturer asserts that there isn’t enough time for the effect mentioned in the article to kick in. In addition, he alleges that, in fact, the human population can rapidly recover to its ordinary level, which might bring about more deforestation for the cultivation of crops. Accordingly, the abundant forests mentioned in the article are not able to induce the cold situation.
