The lecturer and the reading discuss Robert E.Preary claims about to reach the North Pole. Although the passage claims that Robert claims are true and it brings several reasons, the speaker refutes this idea through several reasons which I will describe in this reporter.
First and foremost, the passage points out that the National Geographic Society sent a committee for searched about Robert claims, and they said it is correct. The lecturer, in contrast, rejects this by claiming that the members of a committee of the National Geographic Society were close friends of Robert; hence, it is not objective. Also, they searched only for 2 days. Therefore, it is not fair and carefully.
Furthermore, unlike the passage which states that Robert reached the north in 37 days as the same as Ellesmere; hence, Robert claims is true. The professor argues that Robert reaches is different from Ellesmere reaches in important ways. Ellens carry much less weight with herself because his food was carried and transfer by air plain. She adds that the weather condition of Ellesmere reaches was better than the Roberts reaches; hence, the speed of the Ellesmere was more that the Roberts speed.
Finally, although the passage says that measured shadow angles in the Peary’s pictures from his journey confirm that he reached the North Pole, the speaker disagrees by mentioning that Peary took those photos one hundred years ago, and the shadows in the pictures have become blurred. So, even the most accurate technics for measuring the shadow angles in the pictures could not prove his claim.
