The reading and the lecture are about the accuracy of the claim that a well-known explorer reach the North Pole. The reading supports this claim, while the lecture casts doubt on them providing explanations for its objection as follows.

Firstly, the author of the reading argues that a committee was instructed to investigate the Peary's records and equipment and they concluded that they true and accurate. The lecturer, on the other hand, refutes this claim by stating that the committee was not objective. She explains that committee was consisted from Peary's friends and those who funded his expedition. Moreover, the work of the committee continued for two days only which makes any results are unreliable.

Secondly, the article says that another British explorer has made the same trip in similar conditions to examine the accuracy of Peary's ability to make this journey and it was a successful and complied with Peary's accounts. The professor, however, contends that this journey was different in many ways, for instance, the weight carried with him was less since he the food was dropped by plane, furthermore, the conditions of the weather were much better.

Thirdly, the text mentions that the photo taken by Pearl where the sun appeared with shadow that match the shadow of the sun the North Pole at this day according to the calculations. The professor , in contrast, rejects this claim by elaborating that the camera used by Peary was an old primitive one. In addition, the photo was fade and blurry which makes it unreliable source for measuring the shadow.
