TPO 29

In the lecture, the professor holds an opinion that the reasons of migration is unconvincing, which is opposite from the articles claims there are a few support for the migration hypothesis.

Initially, the professor illustrates that the edmontosaur do not have to migrate for food. The weather of hundred million years ago is warmer than today. And in the summer, the sunshine is sufficiant for plants to grow. Therefore, the edmontosaur could eat the dead plant to survive. This directly contradicts what the reading states that in cold winter, the edmontosaur had no food because plants do not grow and they needed to migrate for food.

After that, the speaker points out that the edmontosaur lived in herds that dose not mean they migrate. Some animals live in herds protecting from predators, such as elk which live in herd but not migrate. This also different from the reading, which indicates that many edmontosaur skeletons were buried in the same place, so they live in herds and migrate.

Finally, the professor asserts that the junior edmontosaurs are not able to move long distances. Since they live in herds, they would not leave the junior alone. They live in cold north slope. This counters the reading passage's idea that the edmontosaur is able to migrate long distances, so they could migrate to warmer area in winter.
