The main idea of both the lecture and the passage is whether edmontosaurus, a herbivorous dinosaur which lived in Alaska's north slope one hundred million years ago, migrated to the south in order to live in more hospitable region during the harsh winter or not. Considering this, the author provides three reasons to support the migration theory. The professor, on the other hand, unequivocally challenges whatever contended in the reading by posing some problems.

First, both the professor and the author talk about finding food during winter. As claimed by the passage, no plant could be found in the harsh climate of the winter of Alaska’s north slope that edmmontosaurus were able to eat them and spend the extremely cold winter. The lecturer, nevertheless, contradicts the author's view and explains that the habitat of edmontosaurus was warmer during summer one million years ago than today. Also, the sun shined twenty-four hours a day during the summer. these conditions provide suitable circumstances that vegetation was able to grow incredibly so that plentiful sources plants were on edmmontosaurus habitat. these dinosaurs could feed dead plants during harsh winter. Therefore, it wasn’t necessary to migrate south.

Second of all, the reading goes on to mention that fossil records show that edmontosaurus lived in herds. Moving in herds, like some modern-day animals, can help them to coordinate migration. In contrast, the lecturer explains that living in a herd can’t be a sufficient cause for edmmontosaurus migration. animals, which live in herds, can have other purposes for doing that for example extra protection from predators. Furthermore, the professor mentions a species of Elk that lives in the herd but not migrate.

The last point discussed in the passage edmmontosaurus were capable to reach their destination in the south in a few weeks. However, the professor rejects this by declaring that young edmmontosaurus were not able to walk as fast as adult ones so that they slow down the herd. Consequently, it took much more time to arrive at their destination in the milder region. In addition, adults can’t leave the juvenile behind because they weren’t able to take care of themselves.
