Tpo 29- q1
The article suggests that Edmontosaurus, a common North slope dinosaur, could not have survived in extremely cold climate of Alaska's North slope, so they migrated to south, to more hospitable regions, and provide few hypothesis for this claim; however, the professor does not think that these arguments are correct.
First, the passage says that Edmontosaurus ate plants, but due to the cold and dark conditiond of North Slope plants could not grow there, so Edmontosaurus must have migrated to warmer zones for food. In contrast to that, the speaker declare that Edmontosaurus did not migrate to anywhere else because North slope was a little bit different in that time. Sun shines 24 hours each day for six months during summer allowing plants of north slope to grow in a suitable condition. After arriving winter , these plants died and Edmontosaurus could use the dead nutrition source.
Second, the article hypothesis that Edmontosaurus moved in herds, since many modern migratory animals like caribou live in herds, so Edmontosaurus probably migrated too. The proffesor, however, states that living in herd does not mean they have moved to new habitats. Many animals live in herd in order to be protected from predetors for extra safety.
Third, the author writes that the Edmontosaurus physical structure allowed them to travel at a speed of five kilometers per hour to reach south. the speaker mentiones that though, it is true that adult Edmontosaurus can travel with a high speed younge children of Edmontosaurus were not capable to run in that speed. Actually young Edmontosaurus slowed the herd a lot so they could not to reach their distination in time.
