Large numbers of dinosaur fossils have been discovered in deposits on Alaska’s North Slope, a region that today experiences an extremely cold, Arctic climate. One hundred million years ago, when those dinosaurs were alive, the environment of the North Slope was already inhospitable, especially during the winter when it experienced several months of total darkness. How did the dinosaurs survive the wintertime? Paleontologists have proposed that one of the most common North Slope dinosaurs, the elephant-sized edmontosaur (Edmontosaurus), survived the winter by migrating south to more hospitable regions. Several arguments support the migration hypothesis.
From the reading passage it mentioned about the discover of dinosaur deposits in Alaska northe slope, where are definately not suitable for animal's living. thus it proposes three reasons how the edmontosaurs survived from the winter through the process down below.
First of all, the reading passage propose that the edmontosaurs must have migrated to the south in order to get enough food rom plants. however, from the listening material, the professor points out a counterpoint that the weather in north are quite different from today, it gots much warmer, and the sunshine last twenty four hours, thus there is no problem for the food supply.
Second, the passage proposed the evidence of the fossils that shows a way of how edmontodaurus living, a heard. In this case, the reading passage suggest that is the evidence of migration as caribou and buffalo. however, the professor mentioned that living as a heard not only for the migration but also provide the protection. thus the herd of edmontosaurus didn't have to migrate.
Finally, the passage mentioned about the distances that edmonosaurs can move, however, the professor cast the doubt on the juvenile in a herd. there is no way that the juvenile could move this far, and the parents would never leave the babies behind, in this case, the hypothesis could not be true.
