According to the lecture, three reasons to suspect the story of burning mirror is proposed. In contrast, the opposes that these reasons are, indeed, unconvincing, presenting three opposite view to reject these reasons.

First of all, burning mirror is thought to be just a myth in the passage because the ancient Greeks were not technologically advanced enough to build such an achievement as the result of the tough requirement, parabolic curvature, of making such a thing. Notwithstanding, the lecturer holds an contradictory viewpoint that this mirror is not a single sheet but dozens of little sheets. That is to say, Ancient Greeks could utilize numerous sheets to constitute a single wide parabolic one.

Second, it is thought to be a truth that burning mirror is not plausible since it will take a long time to have ships burned. In this case, the object need to be constantly static, which rules out the possibility of burning mirror. Nonetheless, the professor disagrees with this saying. She presents that if the whole ship is made of wood, it will take a lot d time. The ship made of pitch, however, will be easily caught with fire. After that, the fire caught on pitches can spread to woods surrounding, which makes time much more shorter.

Third, it is believed that a burning mirror does not seem like an improvement on a weapon existing: flaming arrows because they two are available at the same distance away from their enemies. Whereas, the woman regards that it may not be believable, saying weapons of burning mirror is a surprising weapon over the flaming arrow. Flaming arrow has be very familiar among enemies.
