In the set of the materials, the article states that although there is no agreement in a purpose and meaning of the Carved stone ball there are some theories about that. However, the professor, in the lecture, explains that none of this theories are convincing and refutes each of the author's reasons.
First, the reading claims that because Carved stone balls have some holes and grooves on their surface, these stone used in hunting and fighting as a weapon. However, the professor argues that common weapons of Neolithic people have a sign of war such as cracking but most of these engraved balls are very well preserved. Therefore, It is impossible that these ball used for fighting.
Second, the reading passage says that the sizes of the Carved stone balls are nearly the uniform so they were used as a weight to measurement. The professor counters this point by stating that even though these stones have the same size, they don't have a similar mass. In addition, The professor states that the density of the materials is different to each other. Hence, Carved stone ball couldn't use in a measuring system.
Third, the reading makes the argumentation that due to the elaborative design, Carved stone ball may be served as an important social status. The professor refutes this claim by pointing out that a plenty of elaborations on these incise stones are too simple in order to consider status symbol. Furthermore, he says that there haven't found any of these stone on a grave of those people lived on that period.
