The reading brings up three theories to explain the usage of carved stone balls. However, the professor refutes each of the author's reasons.

First, the passage asserts that these stone maybe used as a fighting or hunting tools. The lecturer rejects this theory by stating that the surface of these stones are not damaged. She adds if the stones were used for hunting or fighting they would have broken up and damaged like the axes of Neolithic era so they could not applicate for these purposes.

Second, the reading argues that the uniform size of stone balls indicates they used to as weights for measurement system. The professor, nonetheless, explains that in spite of the fact that the stones have uniform size, the density of them are various because they are formed from a large different type of stones. For example, two stones which have similar size definitely have different weights. Therefore, they are not appropriate for measurement system of weighting.

Third, the reading states that the stone are the sign of the social rank of their owner. On the other hand the lecture extremely rejects this reason by saying that most of the stone are absolutely simple without to be considered as symbol of social status of their owner. Furthermore, in Neolithic era the important possessions of one person were graved with everyone although these type of stone have not found in the tombs.
