TPO-4
Both the article and lecture discuss the possibility that the dinosaur were the endotherm, which they could maintain their body temperature constant in the cold or warm weather. The passage provides three evidence to support the claim that dinosaur were the endotherm, however, the speaker casts doubt the evidence proposed in the reading passage.
Firstly, lecturer rejects the point made in the text. She states that Polar Regions in the past were warmer than today and dinosaur who lived in the Polar Regions migrated to warmer areas during cold temperature. She adds that it is possible that the dinosaur may hibernate like modern reptile in the cold weather. Hence, the idea that dinosaur were endotherms is unconvincing. By contrast, the author believes that because the fossils of dinosaur were found in the polar region, it is likely that the dinosaur were endotherms that they maintain body temperature.
Secondly, the professor refutes the idea described in the passage. The professor claims that having leg that located underneath body does not mean that they built for running. She points out that the dinosaur' leg were located underneath body for supporting weight of the dinosaur which allowed them to grow to larger size. Therefore, the idea that the leg underneath body do not indicate that dinosaur were endotherm. On the contrary, the writer brings up a point that since the dinosaur' legs were placed underneath body, they were used for running, as the endotherm had a same function.
Finally, although the writer of the article believes that having Haversian canals in the dinosaur that they could grow faster, means that they were endotherms, the lecturer challenges this claim. It is argued in the lecture that it is true that many dinosaur had Haversian canals, but they also had growth rings. Having growth ring means that the dinosaur did not grow constantly and they grow slowly which followed by rapid growth. So, the slow growth after the rapid growth suggests that they were not endotherm, as the endotherm did not have this characteristic.
