The topic of the article as well as the lecture is about maintaining a permenant human presence on the space; many scientists believe that it is possible to have such a presence on the Moon or March. The author states three theories to suggests that life is impossible on Venus. However, the lecturer provides a number of counterarguments in their rejection, and suggests a solution: establishing a float station that is 45 kilometers above the surface of the Venus.
Initially, the writer asserts that as a result of the high atmospheric pressure on the surface of the Venus, about 10 times of the Earth's atmospheric pressure, any object that had landed on its surface, crushed whitin an hour. In contrast, the the speaker says that by performing his suggestion, at 45 kilometers above the surface of the Venus, the atmospheric pressure is equal to the Earth's surface atmospheric pressure and it does not hurt any object.
Second, the author explains that because of the composition of the Venus's atmosphere, that mainly comprise of carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and sulfric acid, it is hard to establish a permanent station there without any oxygen or water. Yet again, the lecturer underscores that the floating station could obtain water and oxygen from the gasses on the Venus's surface.
The final point of disagreements between the reading and the listening passage is the sunlight. The writer believes that because of blockage effects of the thick layer of the clouds on the Venus's atmosphere, hardly can any light reaches its surface. On the other hand, the speaker states that those thick clouds are about the 40 kilometers high, and the floating station in the 45 kilometers height can reach enough sunlight, both dircetly from sun and from reflected light.
