TPO-40 - Integrated Writing Task Many scientists believe it would be possible to maintain a permanent human presence on Mars or the Moon. On the other hand, conditions on Venus are so extreme and inhospitable that maintaining a human presence there would

The author of the reading of the passage and the professor both discuss that whether or not it is possible that human can live on the Venus. The author is against the idea by explaining three theories. However, the professor thinks that the author's reasons contain some defects.

First of all, the author claims that there is at least 90 times pressure at Venus's surface than at Earth. And in that circumstance, all spacecraft will be crushed by that pressure. However, the professor disagrees. He indicates that we can build the station above 15 kilometers from the surface. The atmosphere above 15 kilometers is same pressure as on earth. Therefore, the station won't be crushed by pressure.

In addition, the author states that at venus there is no water and oxygen for humans to survive. On the contrary, the professor refutes the idea by contending that as the author says there are carbon dioxide, nitrogen and other factors on Venus' surface. We can use these compounds to produce the water and oxygen.

Finally, the author raises the point that there is not enough sunlight can reach the surface. So human can't use it to generate the power via solar power. However, the professor asserts that if we live above 30 kilometers from the surface, there won't be a problem. Because the clouds up to 30 kilometers not thick as the surface area, and the cloud could reflect the sunlight, we can use the solar system to collect both reflected sunlight to generate the power.
