According to the author of the reading passage conditions on the Venus are so extreme and inhospitable that maintaining a human presence there would be impossible. The reading provides three hypotheses of support. The professor, on the other hand, is optimistic about another hypothesis in which they can avoid all the negative aspects of maintaining a permanent human presence on the Venus. He refutes each of the author's reason in the following.
In the first place, the article asserts that atmospheric pressure at Venus's surface is at least 90 times greater than the pressure at Earth's surface which means that all spacecrafts and anything human might land on Venus would be crushed as well. Contrary to what is argued in reading, the professor contends that by floating in the Venus's atmosphere we can avoid the risk of being exposed to that huge pressure. He elaborates on his hypothesis by adding some details such as an approved altitude for this purpose, which should be around fifty kilometeres above the surface. He believes that the pressure in this altitude equals virtually the pressure on the Earh's surface.
In addition, the article warns us about no reservoirs of water on Venus's surface and an atmosphere mainly composed of carbon dioxide, nitrogen, sulfuric acid, and approximately with no oxygen or water vapor. The professor refutes this point by saying that we can grasp water and oxygen from carbon dioxide and some other compounds through chemical process. Thus, there should not be any requirements for import of these resources.
Eventually, the author avers that very little sunlight reaches the planet surface due to very thick clouds that smothers the entire planet's surface. So there would be critical problem with exploiting solar energy. The professor rejects this claim by pointing toward his initial hypothesis again. He believes that not only at this altitude not only we would be able to reach the sun light but also we can exploi
