In the reading the author mainly talks about difficulties that we may confront if we want to have a permanent station on Venus. The reading claims that conditions on the Venus are so extreme and inhospitable that maintaining a human presence there would be impossible. The professor, on the other hand, is somehow skeptical about the author's claim and raises several doubts on each each point made by the author.

In the first place, atmospheric pressure at Venus' surface is asserted to be great problem by the author. Atmospheric pressure at the Venus' surface is at least 90 times greater than the pressure at Earth's surface which is indeed coceded by the professor, but he believes that it would be problem if we want to build a station on the Venus' surface. He claims that if we build a satelite station at 50 kilometers above the Venus' surface we can avoid all the problems. The pressure in that height is about the same amount at the Earth's surface.

In addition, the article avers that there are no reservoirs of the water on Venus' surface, and the planets atmosphere, made up mostly of carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and sulfuric acid, contains hardly any oxygen or water vapor. Contrary to what is argued by the author, the professor contends that there are some chemical processes that can help to obtain essential resources such as water and oxygen directly from the Venus' atmosphere. According to the professor's proposal since the station is located above the atmosphere it would be easy having an access to the materials in the atmosphere.

In the end, the reading warns us from the very little sunlight that reaches the planet's surface. The professor refutes the last point by saying that this problem also easily can be approached by having a fixed station at previousely mentioned altitudes. Indeed, in this way not only we can use sunlight from direct solar radiations, but also we can exert reflected sunlights from the below clouds. So we are expected to be able to harvest more sunlight by solar cells and generate electricity even more than we may need.
