TPO 41- task 1
The passage and the lecture discuss whether the new restrict law for coal ashes are necessary for environment or not. The reading expresses that the new regulations are the cause existing new problems in environment. Whereas, the professor in the lecture disagrees with this idea and mentions that the presence of new regulations are indispensable.
First, the passage declares that the past environment regulations are more efficient rather than new regulation due to using liner in ever new pond or landfill. However, the lecturer claims that the pas regulations are not sufficient; therefore, existing new law is essential. If there is not stricter regulations, the ground water will become contaminated.
Moreover, the reading believes that recycling coal ashes are that major reason of reducing the environments risks. Nevertheless, the woman in the lecture refutes this idea with mentions that the people show the same behavior that they had had about mercury and their concerns; thus, there is not any concern about the recycling of coal ashes.
Finally, the passage points out that the results of new regulations is the cause of increasing the cost of services of Power companies. Although, the lecture has opposite opinion about this and mentions, eventhough the increasing of cost is true, but Power companies with change in their materials will be able to generate new services with lower cost rather than past situation.
Although the reading poses that the new regulation can be more dangerous than new setting and need to eliminate new regulations, the professor in the lecture refutes them by mentions consequents of environments dangers of coal ashes and declares about benefits of new regulations.
