TPO-43 - Integrated Writing Task
Both the lecture and the reading discuss agnostids. While the reading states some different theories about agnostids lives, the lecture refutes each of the author's reasons.
First of all, the reading claims the agnostids have been the free-swimming predators which were the strong swimmer and the active predators. However, the lecture argues that free-swimming predators had well-developed and large eyes that were suitable to hunt. Furthermore, the professor says the agnostids had tiny eyes and were completely blind. Agnostids, in order to be active predators, needed special sensory organs which there is not any evidence in the fossils.
In addition, the reading makes the arguments that agnostids were seafloor dwellers which have survived by scavenging dead organisms. The lecture counters this point by stating dwellers seafloor does not have the ability to move fast and far, they move slowly and stay on the originated locally. According to the professor, agnostids moved from one area to other areas very fast which is unusual for seafloor dwellers.
Ultimately, the reading passage asserts that agnostids were parasites which feeding off larger organisms and there are many modern species arthropods that called parasites. The lecture refutes this claim by pointing out that the population of the parasites were not very large and were limit. Moreover, the professor says the agnostids population were large and does not seem were parasites.
