In view of the reading, the author enumerates that there are some archaeologists who believe the European silver coin, which has been known as the result of coming European explorer (Norse), is fake, by pointing out 3 reasons of support. Finding the statements arguable, the lecturer cast doubts on the claim made by the article and presents some evidence in contrary.
At first, The author argues that so far is the distance of Maine as location of Native Americans and eastern Canada as a settlement of Norse, that it could never happen any connection between them. Conversely, the lecturer brings up the idea that there are some historical documents from people who live in the Maine which show the interest of them to getting many unknown object from far away.
In addition, the reading passage holds the view that there are any other coins have been found in the settlement of the Norse. So, it is clear that the Norse did not brought any coins with themselves. On the other hand, the lecturer disputes this point by clarifying the fact that it is not nessesarily true imagination since they cuold get back the coins into Europe when they have come back.
Finally, the author asserts lack of any document about using European coins as the last point for supporting the fake silver coin. The lecturer, though, dismisses it by saying that so appealing were the silver coins that people can use it as the jwellery. With this in mind, it could conceivable that people used it as money to trade.
