The reading and the lecturer are both about the size of past animals which were very large compare than todays animals. The author of reading believes that the large size of animals in the earlier earth must be due to presence of plenty of oxygen, nutrient and warm climates. The lecturer casts doubt on the claim made in the article. He thinks that being scientist there is no reason to abundant common sense and conclude based on the fact which author of reading failed in this article.
First of all, the author points out that large size of animals must be due to plenty of oxygen in earlier earth. It is mention that oxygen-rich environment stimulate growth and produce large arrays of animals. This point is challenged by the lecturer. He says that there was very less oxygen in earlier earth. Furthermore, he argues that it was difficult for the animals to breath in the past due to presence of more volcano activities.
Secondly, the author contends that plenty of nutrient was provided by the abundant plant life on the earlier earth. The article notes that nutrient is vital for animals fully grow. The lecturer rebuts this argument. He suggests that earlier earth had low amount of nutrient. He elaborates this by mentioning that indeed true there was vast amount of plant but they had low nutrient according to recently fossil studies.
Finally, the author states that warm climate tended to stimulate growth. The article establishes that animals did not needed to expend much energy to stay warm due to warm climate instead they used for generating large bodies. The lecturer, on the other hand, posits that small animals are found in warm climate. He puts forth the idea that it was difficult for the large animal in order to maintain their body in warm temperature.
In conclusion, the lecturer effectively casts doubt on all the claims and theories made in the article.
