The article states that there are some efforts in the United States to stimulate doctors to accept the change from traditionally medical recorded data to electronic form and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor claims that it would not be beneficial and casts doubt on each of the author's reasons.
First, the reading posits that utilization of electronic records can lead to decline in costs by storing money and transferring medical records. The professor refutes this point by explaining that doctors would keep paper records as a backup. So, they still should pay costs.
Second, in the article it is asserted that electronic records are indispensable in diminishing medical errors. However, doctors will use papers when they are examining patients, the professor says. We also learn that the staff will enter those records, which are written by the doctors, into the computer, after they interpreted those records of doctors. Therefore, there is a huge chance of error.
Third, the reading says that those electronic records can wonderfully help medical research by making it possible to assemble large proportions of data. The professor opposes this point by saying that due to the strict privacy laws of the government it would be difficult to collect data electronically. According to the professor, there will be some permissions obstructing this process, including patients' permission.
