The professor discusses the disadvantages of electronic medical recrord storage. The information she presents contradicts facts outlined in the reading passage.
First the lecturer mention that the doctors who have used to recording medical information on paper do not discontinue their conventional procedure. They even do not throw away the information and consequently, they incur the storage cost. On the other hand, according to the reading, electronic medical records do not occupy space and all the doctors will definitely use the electronic method.
Second, the speaker states that docotors still utilize pen and paper in order to examine the patients and take note. Furthermore, they are office staffs who add the hand written information to the computer at later time. Thus, the error arised from poor hand writting still exists. However, the reading specifies that poor hand writing and improper transcription of information and its resulting errors will be avoidable if doctors use electronic method.
Third, the professor points out that accessing medical information subjects to accessing private information law in United States. In this manner, if researchers needs to have access this information, they must follow strict laws and request permissions from different centers. Moreover, patients are able to ban the access to their medical information and this fact can cause many issues regards to researchers. In contrast, the reading makes it clear that electronic medical records can help researchers with increasing the speed of search and making it possible to access them.
