TPO-47 - Integrated Writing Task Pterosaurs were an ancient group of winged reptiles that lived alongside the dinosaurs. Many pterosaurs were very large, some as large as a giraffe and with a wingspan of over 12 meters. Paleontologists have long wondered

In this set of materials the lecturer and author discusses about pterosaurs's ability to take a flight. The author suggests that pterosaurs cannot fly in sky and provides few reasons for this assumptions. The lecturer however, refutes to each and every point mentioned in the passage.

First of all, the lecturer points out that the recent fossil records of pterosaurs shows that, they had some thick fur on their body. This is usually a characteristic of warm blooded animal. So as per that, pterosaurs had enough metabolism to create ample amount of energy to fly in air. On contrast, the writer asserts that pterosaurs being cold blooded were not capable of generating so much energy to take a flight.

In addition, the speaker posits that the pterosaurs had very special anatomical feature which was hollowness in it's bones. Owing to this feature, the pterosaurs had very light body weight despite of it's big size; which make them perfectly capable of flapping wings during their flight. This point is refuted in article. The author proposes that pterosaurs's heavy body made it difficult to fly in air.

Finally, the professor also opposes the point mentioned in the passage that pterosaurs could not jump or run fast in order to take flight. He provides some evidence that pterosaurs unlike birds, were using all four limbs and to jump or run fast during their flight. There weakness in hind legs did not cause any hindrance for their running or jumping.
