Both the reading passage and the lecture discuss whether the Pterosaurs were capable of powered flight, and the reading thinks it may not possible that these reptiles can fly. However, the professor disagrees with each point in the passage. Here are three reasons as below.
To begin with, the article indicates that the Pterosaurs were cool-blood so it's slow metabolism unable to produce sufficient energy to fly. On the contrary, the professor calls the theory into question by arguing that according to the fossil records that the dinosaur had a dense fur covered its skin. Moreover, this character was familiar with warm-blood animals which suggested the Pterosaurs might be a warm-blood animal so that it could generate enough energy.
Second, the passage points that Pterosaurs were too heavy to have a powered flight. Once again, the speaker debates the hypothesis. Based on the records, showing that the bones in the dinosaurs actually were hollow. Therefore, the weight of the Pterosaurs was light and they could flap their wings easily. Apparently, the hypothesis seems not convincing.
All in all, the reading illustrates because of the weak and small back leg muscles so the Pterosaurs were unable to run fast or jump high. Nevertheless, the lecturer challenges the explanation. These reptiles were differed from a bird, only using hind legs to push off the ground. Certainly, the Pterosaurs usually made use of its four limbs to push off the ground. Hence, even though the back leg muscles were small, it still can fly without any difficulty.
