Both the reading and the lecture are arguing over the migration of Humpack whale. The author of reading hold the belief that Humpack whale migrate by using the star and provides three points of support. However the lecutrer casts doubt on the claims presented in the passage. He thinks that the evidences presented in the reading are unconvincing.
First of all, the author points out that whale demonstartes high level of intelligence since the structure of their brain is sophisticated which prove that whale can migrate by stars. On the other hand, the professor refutes this point by explaining that point is not true because there are other animals that have not high level of intelligence, like ducks, and still can migrate by star. So, the intelligence level has nothing to do with migration by stars.
Moreover, the author states that whale migrate in straight lines which is an external force (star).Nevertheless, the professor counteract this idea by mentioning that migration of whales by external force not necessary means by stars. It could be by earth magentic field . He put forth this idea that whale brain contain biomagnatide which is sensitive to earth magnetic field which oppose the idea that whale migrate by stars.
Finally, the author posits that Humpack whale show unusual behavior called"spy hopping" and this behavior known for migration by stars. While, the professor rebutted this idea by explaining that there are many animals exhibiting this behavior and still do not migrate by stars . He explained that animal doing this behavior in order to find mate or to hunt, also they showing this bahvior at the daytime when there is no stars at all.
