TPO 49: Summarize the points made in the lecture about humpback whales, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on the specific methods proposed in the reading passage

The article and lecture are both about how humpback whales are able to use the stars as a navigator when they migrate. The author thinks that this theory is plausible. The lecturer challenges the statements made by the author. He believes that there is no evidence that this theory is correct.
First of all, The author claims that Humpback whales have a developed brain and they are smart animals. The professor, on the other hand, argues that there is no significant link between intelligence and using the stars to navigate. He elaborates on this by providing an example of some birds like ducks. Ducks are one of the birds who use the stars in their migration. However, ducks are average smart birds. as a result, there is no direct link between star navigation and cleverness.

Secondly, the writer claims that Humpback whales use straight lines when they are migrating. Such kind of behavior is used by animals depending on stars during their migration. The lecturer challenges this argument by asserting that the whales have a chemical material in their brain called biomagnetite. This material makes whales able to sense the Earth's magnetic field. Moreover, the existence of this material makes scientists think these whales depend on the Earth's magnetic field when migrating rather than the stars.

Finally, it is mentioned in the article that Humpback whales use unusual behavior called spy-hopping, in which they raise their head above water to see the stars. The speaker, however, rebuts this by stating that this behavior is also used by sharks although they do not migrate. Normally sharks use this technique to catch their prey. In addition, whales act this way also during day hours when there are no stars in the sky.
