The author of the passage asserts that human has long been interested in elephant and it causes that elephants have some fascinating behaviors and features for human. Nevertheless, the lecturer finds the features which are proposed by passage dubious and casts doubts on behaviors proposed by reading passages.
First of all, the reading states that elephants will be aware of the issue that they will die soon. In other words, when they become old and weak, they understand that they are nearing the end of their lives. For this reason, they break away from their herds and say alone to specific locations where are at the adjacency of water (elephant graveyard) to die alone and this idea is substantiated by their bones which are discovered at this place. In contrast, the lecturer repudiates this idea and declares that they break away from their herds in order to find more suitable foods. It is crystal clear that when elephants become older, it is hard for them to chew some kind of vegetables. So, as a possible solution, they go to some specific places so as to find softer vegetation to eat and usually these kinds of vegetation are located near the water.
Furthermore, the author claims that elephants could learn to hold a paintbrush in their trunk and utilize them on canvas. Conversely, the professor dismisses the idea due to the fact that elephants' ears are so sensitive and it can be a great tool for the human to learn them how to paint in a tricky way. In other words, they are just painting lines which learned and they repeated these ways by touching. Ultimately, it is not necessary that they should be flowers or other elephants.
Finally, the reading holds the view that elephants are afraid of mice. this belief is emanated from Roman philosopher who states that elephants are terrified by mouse, even more than dangerous animals such as tigers or lions. On the contrary, the professor brings up the idea that they are not afraid of them. they react to them because they are not familiar with this kind of animal. Moreover, she mentioned some kind of elephants which live in the zoos and when they faced mouse, they did not react to them.
