In this set of materials, both the reading and the lecturer discuss Amtrak means an intercity trains service, and maintaining it belongs to the government. Although the reading provides three theories for government should be sold Amtrak to privately-owned, the speaker refutes these ideas through several reasons, which will be described in this report.
To start off, the passage points out that the government loses a lot of money for repairing Amtrak because these rots are in remote and less populated areas. The lecturer, in contrast, rejects this by claiming that it is true the government pay a lot of money for repairing it. But, one of the aims of the government is that citizens of America have a better life. So, Amtrak also should repair for using people, like roots that more people use.
Going through the next approach, the reading passage states that it is not fair to spend a large amount of money for Amtrak, government should allocate this money for supporting airlines. Nevertheless, the professor argues that the government supports airlines in many ways. She explains that the government pays a lot of money for both air traffic controllers and official controls for flight safety. She believes that if the government does not support the airline, they could not exist anymore.
Finally, although the passage says that most people of the United State rarely use national transportation systems, the speaker disagrees by mentioning that people do not use Amtrak because it is out of date. She adds that if the government put some high-speed trains, people would use them instead of their cars. For example, in Japan and Europe, most people use high-speed trains for travelling into cities and countries instead of using their cars.
