The reading passage explores the project of inventing a new type of Broccoli which suits the climate in East Coat, and gives several protential benefits of the project. On the other hand, The professor in the lecture responds by saying that the project is not so benefitial as the reading passage suggests.
First, the professor concur with the relatively low cost on transportation of the new-type Broccoli, but she thinks it doese not mean the market price of broccoli will decrease. In her opinion, the writer of the reading passage overlooks that the farmer in the East Coast will control the harvest in order to sustain the price, and thus make more profit. Therefore, the price will remain the same.
Second, even though the new-type broccoli plans to be created by traditonal breeding methods, the company that runs the project is still suspecious for the consumer. Their previous records on developing genetic food will lead to the mistrusts of consumers, causing they tend to reject the new broccoli. Hence, the evdience disapproves the counterpart of the statement in the reading.
Lastly, the profeesor doubts that to maintain the nurtrients contained in broccoli can be a good reason to invent new broccoli. She points out that there are other kinds of vegetable contained the similar inutrients with the broccoli, implying that people should promote the local food to the customorm, not attempt to invent the new type vegetable instead.
