The reading passage makes a point that a new type of broccoli which could not only be grown in mild summer but also hotter weather has been created and it has several potential benefits. The professor, in contrast, holds a different point that the benefits mentioned in the passage are not likely to success.
First, even though the reading passage suggests that new broccoli would lower the cost for consumer because the transportation fees have been reduced, the professor argues in the lecture that it is no necesserary for broccoli to be sold in a lower price. This is because the yield of the new broccoli has also been decreased either, which indicates that farmers growing new broccoli would harvest less and then sell the vegetables in a high price.
Moreover, despite the statement in the reading that the new broccoli are crossbreeded instead of being genetically modified, which makes the new broccoli more desirable and less controversial, the professor contneds that it is not the fact. Then she supports the view with the fact that new broccoli and genetically modified crops, which is quite controverrsial, are created by a same company. In this case, people would probably distrust the company and reject the new broccoli.
Finally, contrary to what is mentioned in the reading that new broccoli could be sold sooner, which is more healthier to the buyers, the professor maintains that other vegetables also have the similar nurtrition as the broccoli. So, the government should educate people to buy the vegetables which could be available locally.
