In the reading passage, the arguer mentions that there are three major factors increasing the possibility that the American customers buy the ecocertified wood products: firstly, they cannot trust in advertising claims, they prefer purchasing the low-price products, and finally, they are the biggest consumers of such products. Although the author buttresses the ideas in the reading section, the lecturer repudiates them.
Firstly, on the one hand, the author mentions that the American consumers are steeped in so much advertising and indeed, they would not pay attention to the novel or Eco-certificated labels; however, the lecturer posits that the people distinguish fairly between different products. In fact, they react fairly to the international or indigenous corporations’ advertisings. Thus, it seems the consumers pay attention to the advertising’s contents.
Secondly, even though the author holds that the ecocertified woods will be more expensive than the ordinary products and as a result, the American consumers tend to buy low-price products instead of them, the lecture refutes this idea. He claims that, according to the various studies, American customers pay attention to the quality and other related characteristics as well as the price. Therefore, the price could not take a center stage in convincing consumers to buy the products.
Last but not least, the author declares that the American consumers are the big group of customers in ecocertified products. In other words, American wood companies sell lion’s share of their products in the United States. On the other hand, according to the lecture section, the lecturer rejects this claims because he believes that if American companies do not apply the ecocertified labels, many international companies will take the local businesses in future. Hence, to compete with other international companies, American companies should take the ecocertified concept.
In conclusion, whereas the author supports the opinions about the complicity of major factors in ecocertification and business, the lecturer repudiates these factors in the listening section.
