TPO22 Integrated question
The article discusses a fascinating topic pertaining to why ethanol is not a proper replacement for gasoline and provides three reasons for support. However, the professor explains that these claims are not convincing and opposes each of the author’s reasons.
First, the reading discusses that nowadays, global warming is the main environmental problems caused by fossil fuels that would not solve by the increase the use of ethanol as a common fuel. In contrast, the professor provides information to illustrate to us this idea is not true. He states that the main reason for global warming is the increase of releasing carbon dioxide into the air and plants can absorb carbon dioxide from the air. He says for producing the ethanol, companies should grow the corn as a main constituent material of the ethanol, as a result with this way they help to reduce the amount of co2 and decrease the global warming. As the professor said plants can remove the carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Clearly disparity exists between the article and the evidence exhibited by the professor.
Second, the article pushes forth the idea that the same amount of ethanol would significantly decline the amount of plant rather than fuels. Result in the amount of plant that uses by others would reduce. However, according to the professor, the main component of the plant that uses for producing ethanol is the cellulose. Cellulose finds in parts of plants that are not eaten by animals. In other words, using plants is not affect the food sources for other animals. Consequently, we can argue that indeed the claim maid in reading unsubstantiated.
Finally, the reading posits that it is impossible that the ethanol fuel can compete with gasoline fuel in final price and fossil fuels would very cheaper than ethanol. The professor refutes this point by explaining that in the future the factory that produces the ethanol will increase the amount of their product, as a consequence the price of the ethanol will drop. In fact, whatever a product be more available, it’s the price of would go down.
