The text and lecturer offer two opposing views on the accuracy of the hypothesis which illustrate reasons of endotherms dinosaurs. While the text lists some points such as the fossils of the polar region, leg position and movement capability, and Haversian canals as the reasons which advocate this surmise, the lecturer counters these specific points and presents some clues to call into question for the information in the reading passage.
First of all, professor refutes the polar dinosaurs’ fossil as the evidence of endothermy which in the reading part is named as one of the main reasons. The text mentions that since the frigid climate of the polar reign demands endotherms, which are able to adjust their body temperature with surrounding, thus the dinosaurs are endotherms. The lecturer states that the temperature of polar region was not as cold as today; in contrast, it was warmer which the dinosaur can exist on that condition. Besides, whenever, the temperature dropped they migrated to warmer areas or hibernate as the reptiles.
Next, the passage uses the surmise of leg position as one of the clues for this hypothesis. Inasmuch as the legs were underneath the body which makes them run. The lecturer doubts the truth of this claim. As she asserts there is no any evidence about their ability to run; moreover, the fact which should not be underestimated is their heavyweights. Thus, the legs' size and standing mainly are for the sake of balance of the dinosaurs and not running.
Finally, the professor argues that the Haversian canals as the hints of endothermy. Meanwhile, the passage presumes that these canals are specific for the endotherms and they assist them to grow fast and consist in any climatical condition. In addition, their bones have these canals; as a result, they are endotherms. Based on the lecturer's evidence which is based on the growth rings, the pattern of growth in these dinosaurs is not persisted. There is fluctuation in the rings' size which illustrates the dinosaurs' growth rely on climatic condition. Consequently, they cannot consider as endotherms.
The professor effectively challenges the claim made in the article
