The reading claims that in the United States medical information about patients traditionally has been recorded and stored on paper forms and storing patients medical records in electronic records has several advantages over traditional paper-based record keeping. However, the lecturer finds all the ideas questionable and presents some evidence to refute them all.
The author argues that it can reduce costs by saving money on storing and transferring medical records. This costs much less than copying, faxing and others from one location to another. Conversely, the lecturer brings up the idea that most of the doctors who adapt to new electronic records keep the paper as a backup and so they pay extra money for their own storage of paper.
Furthermore, the reading passage holds the view that the electrical records can aid research by making it possible to gather large amounts of data from patient records.it would be simple to draw out the needed information from the medical databases because they are already formatted for data collection. On the contrary, the professor underlines the fact that it does not necessarily benefit them, it is sometimes difficult to access to data because there in the united states who want to collect data have to obtain many permissions because of their strict privacy laws and some of the patients can block their users for so many reasons such as self-drug usage.
Finally, the reading asserts that it can illegible handwritings improper transcripts of data. In contrast, the speaker dismisses this issue due to the fact that it cannot eliminate errors because most doctors who are using the electrical records still use pen and other stuff when wanting to examination patients.
