Were dinosaurs Reptiles or Endotherms?
Both the reading passage and lecturer discusses whether the dinosaurs are endotherms or not. The former argues that there are three features of dinosaurs to consider them as endotherms whereas the lecture in listening passage contradicts each of these points.
First of all, the author of the passage claims that fossils found on polar region of dinosaurs proves that they are active in cold temperature. However, the lecturer contends that, he believes that it might be possible that they moved to other place. He goes to say that like reptiles who hibernate or migrate to warmer place in cold temperature, it is possibility that dinosaurs were moved to less cold region.
Secondly, the text asserts that the position of two legs in below part of body maintains dinosaurs to do physical activity which suggests the feature of endotherms. Nevertheless, the listening counters that this structure of leg in dinosaurs body supports the heavy weight for upper body, which gives other advantage of being large animal.
At last, in reading passage states that dinosaurs have haversian canal system which allows them to grow quicker, which allows them to to qualified for endotherms. In contrast, the lecturer contends this point and says that dinosaurs also have growth rings in their body system. He adds up the argument by saying that these rings are responsible to random growth like stopping the growth and then show rapid growth again which doesn't allow this evidence for calling dinosaurs endotherms.
In conclusion, as we can see both lecturer and writer holds very different view on the topic.
