zebra mussel will spread in all of North America without stop

Essay topics:

zebra mussel will spread in all of North America without stop

The article provided reasons to support idea that zebra mussel will spread in all of North America without stop. However, the professor believed that there are ways to control zebra's population so they can't spread unlimited.

First, it is mentioned in the passage that the history of zebra mussle's spread through ships to the whole Europe suggests this unstoppable invasion. On the contrary, the professor explained that it occurred in the past because of lacking knowledge. People emptied the water full of zebras to the ocean from their ships. While, if they changed the freshwater with salt water that kill the zebras when they are still in the ship before emptying to the ocean, this phenomena wouldn't happen.

Second, the author suggested that once zebra mussels carried to new habitat, they can dominate there. Even though, the professor refuted this by pointing out that this is true in the beginning but after a while, birds understand that there is a new source of food and begin eating zebras and they can eat a lot of zebras so the population will decline after while.

Third, the author claimed that these fishes can decrease the overall fish population where they dominate. However, the professor casted doubt on this by clarifying that it has negative impacts on fishes that eat planktons but has positive impacts on other species so the overall population would not decline.
