The table gives the information about the proportion of people living in poverty from each household type in Australia in 1999.
The proportion of people living in poverty varies according to the household type. It is clear from the table that large proportion of household belonging to sole parent, which is 21%, is living in poverty followed closely by single with no children with 19%. The striking feature of the table is that very few people among the family of the aged couple, single aged person and couple with no children are living in poverty with the proportional share of 4%, 6% and 7% respectively. The family consisting of couple with children matches almost with the national average in this case.
But if we look the total number of people living in poverty, the scenario is quite different. The maximum number of people living in poverty are from single with no children family whereas in the case of minimum is people from aged couple family.
