Some people believe that exploring outer space is important because it expands human knowledge and might lead to discoveries that will benefit humanity in the future. Other people believe that space exploration is a waste of money that could be better spent solving immediate problems here on Earth.

Choose which position you most agree with and discuss why you chose that position. Support your point of view with details from your own experiences, observations or reading

Governments in some parts of the world spend money on space exploration projects. While some people contend that the money spent on these projects is worthwhile, I believe that this is a waste of money for two reasons.

First of all, it is extremely expensive to train astronauts and other staff involved with the space missions, and facilities and equipment come at a huge cost to the governments. Secondly, the results of the missions do not affect normal people in our everyday lives, and they are simply a vanity for politicians. The money would be better spent on supporting people who live in poverty. Finally, a smallest technological error can cost astronauts their lives. For example, many missions to space failed and there have been a number of astronauts who died from the explosion of the shuttle a few decades ago.

Furthermore, I believe that the government should spend money on public services rather than space projects. We all use public services such as schools, police and hospitals. It is by far cheaper to train teachers, police officers and doctors than it is to train scientists or engineers that work on the outer space projects. Also, most people use public transport such as trains and buses, and therefore recruiting more drivers and placing more vehicles would certainly prevent and reduce road accidents due to the overcrowd. At the same time, if the money is reallocated, many people could be lifted out of poverty.

For the reasons mentioned above, I strongly advocate the view that investing money in space programs is not worth its value.
