Relict behavior is defined as a remnant of an animal’s behavior and reaction against the past situation of its habitat that has changed now. The professor brings up an example to illustrate this. He states that pronghorn, a deer like animal, lives in open grassy areas of the North America and is a super-fast runner which cannot be caught by the predators such as coyote. The fast running of the pronghorns is related to the lions that used to live in this grassy areas quite long time ago. Lions were much faster than any other predators. But now they are extinct and pronghorns do not need to run as fast as they did in the past to survive. So their remained fast running behavior is a relict behavior.
